Background: Some of the valley's youngest students and performers at D.W. Higgins Institute have been learning the techniques of lighting, cameras and leadership from their older counterparts at Collins College.

Over the past several weeks, a large crew of students from Collins College in conjunction with Charity Pictures filmed a public service announcement for educational purposes to be used at locations across the valley. The film stars several students from D.W. Higgins, a charter school based in Tempe.

The PSA which focuses on how children are the future of the world was shown Thursday for the first time in a special program at D.W. Higgins.

Martha Wallace, Principal at D.W. Higgins, praised the work of the students from Collins College.

"Collins College students have shown an overwhelming commitment and enthusiasm in working with our students and presenting technology that elementary students would otherwise never have access to," Wallace said. "Their interaction with the special education population was exemplary. Among other things, the Collins College students demonstrated lighting and camera work to the D. W. Higgins students”.

The next project between Collins College and D.W. Higgins will be an independent film focusing on diversity incorporating music, dance, and fine arts.
