Collins College Interior Design Instructor Wins Project of the Year Award

Tempe, AZ (March 28, 2008) - Matthew G. Trzebiatowski received Project of the Year from “residential architect” Design Awards (RADA) for his own home. Trzebiatowski, AIA, is the principal of his own architectural design firm blank studio and is an adjunct instructor for Collins College’s school of Interior Design.

Trzebiatowski’s home, named Xeros Residence (xeros means dry in Greek), is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and blends in with the stark beauty of the desert. The cutting-edge glass-front house stands 30 feet high and overlooks the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. The home’s overall design emphasizes simple, unusual solutions and displays an experiential use of space and materials. Trzebiatowski applies this philosophy to all of his architectural designs in his private practice, blank studio.

The ninth annual “residential architect” Design Awards received more than 1,300 entries in 15 categories. Just 36 projects were singled out for accolades, making RADA one of the most competitive residential architecture awards program in the country. Trzebiatowski won the top honor, Project of the Year award.

Trzebiatowski has received national and international recognition for Xeros Residence. He is among a small group of artists who were selected for publication in Booth-Clibborn’s book “Phoenix: 21st Century City.” Other recognition includes having one of only eight homes nationwide selected for “Architectural Record,” Record Houses 2006; 2007 World Architecture News, House of the Year Award; 2006 AIA Arizona, Honor Award; and 2006 AIA Western Mountain Region, Honor Award. In addition, numerous articles have been written about Trzebiatowski and his designs.

Trzebiatowski is a registered architect in Arizona and Wisconsin. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a Master of Architecture from the University of Wisconsin. For more information on blank studio, visit: www.blankspaces.net.
