Timothy Kristof
Film Graduate

Tym KristofDid you know that ESPN airs more than 5,100 live and/or original hours of sports programming for more than 65 sports, national and international? Whatever your passion, the NBA, NFL, WNBA, PGA, LPGA, or even the Little League World Series, it’s on ESPN.*

With stats like those, you can almost feel the pulsating energy and accelerated pace of the ESPN control room where Timothy Kristof works as an operations technician. Kristof’s department oversees ten international sports networks and is about to take on three more.

As an operations technician, Kristof is responsible for making sure everything having to do with the international sports networks he is assigned to runs smoothly, including commercial time, pre-recorded and live programming, and audio and visual elements. Kristof is also charged with fixing any technical difficulties. Among the many challenges of working in sports, is the overtime factor. When live events do run into other scheduled shows, all programming needs to be readjusted to ensure the rest of the day runs seamlessly.

So what does it take to get a job at ESPN? Aside from having solid job and interpersonal skills, Kristof, a film graduate, also had an impressive portfolio presentation. The other rather decisive factor for landing a job at ESPN is to like — if not love — sports. Kristof, an avid sports fan, definitely considers monitoring sports programs on a daily basis the greatest perk of his job.
